broomstick pool tournament

This past weekend Eric and I traveled to Pomeroy, WA for the annual St. Patrick's Day Broomstick Pool Tournament (yes, you actually play pool with a broomstick). The tournament has been a part of Pomeroy history for decades and participating every year is a Dixon family tradition. Almost everyone in town comes to the Up & Up (the local bar) and gather for about 10 hours to watch the tournament and drink green beer. There are also contests for best pool stick (some people decorate them) and best outfit. Having specific partners is one of the main traditions and Eric and his Dad have been partners for the last 4 years (since Eric turned 21).

When I first posted this blog I forgot to mention that Eric and his Dad didn't do very well in the tournament. Everyone wanted this really old guy (Molly's Uncle, he's about 82) to win, but I think he ended up getting 3rd. Eric's cousin Luke and friend Joe Cox won!

I don't have a picture from this years Broomstick (our camera was out of batteries), but here are a couple pictures from last year...
